Jeremy started his career at the San Diego Botanical Garden, where a few of his original gardens are still on display. Since starting his landscape design business he has worked with the Cardiff library and is currently partnering with the city of Cardiff-by-the-Sea to design and install a garden by the Kook statue and campgrounds. He is often invited to give lectures to various plant societies in Southern California including the Master Gardeners, Cactus and Succulent Society, as well as plant specific symposiums. He is an active member of the California Native Plant Society, The Cactus and Succulent Society, and the Cycad Society. Additionally he is the curator for Rancho Soledad Nursery in Rancho Santa Fe. When not designing and installing gardens he is hybridizing and creating new plants as well as traveling around the world to research the plants he loves- so that he may better understand them and their habitats.

Design Philosophy

The design philosophy behind Spath Gardens is best summed up in one sentence, "Nature is the best landscaper." Though seemingly nothing is as beautiful as the natural world, Jeremy strives to mimic it in his designs. He will often look at the surrounding natural areas and make his work blend with it. Because we are located in San Diego, native plants are combined with other drought tolerant plants to create a beautiful, relaxing, and lush environment. Jeremy Spath works with you to give you the plants and space you are looking for.
